Free portuguese music
January 28th, 2008This isn’t exactly new, but I haven’t heard anything about these guys before. Looks like Merzbau, an indie Portuguese label, distributes music on their website under a Creative Commons license. I found this while finding out more about Lobster, whose EP Fast Seafood is distributed freely on Merzbau’s website (and they also have a full length album on sale).
Together with websites like Myspace or Palco Principal this is a great way for new bands to promote themselves, and some people surely appreciate to have something they can listen more carefully on their mp3 player for a while rather than having to bear with that Myspace flash player (which fails more than often).
Together with Linda Martini, If Lucy Fell (new album out !), Men Eater, The Vicious Five and Riding Panico (new album almost out), Lobster is part of this great wave of new Portuguese bands (most of all related to Black Sheep Studios) which appeared on the last couple of years and are showing us that great music can be made in our country (and not only in English).
